Critics Answered

Any controversial discussion is bound to generate feedback of a critical nature. Accordingly, VMAC has placed a number of public letters from our critics here for review and rebuttal. All of these letters were printed in Vermont newspapers as either letters to the Editor, or as opinion pieces.

The first four responses are from Vermont professionals in Academia and the Social Sciences who responded publicly to VMAC statements and/or website content, as well as Dr. Patrick Fagan’s and Professor Monte Stewart’s presentations at UVM on January 19th, 2008. Since there is some overlap in the areas discussed in the first three letters from professors in fields related to family studies, we strongly suggest the reader evaluate all three, and carefully note the responses provided by VMAC to each major area of question or criticism..

Each letter is provided in full, and unedited. Statements from the author to which VMAC is directly replying are highlighted in this manner.

Each response from VMAC is denoted either by the VMAC icon:

Direct responses from Dr. Fagan or Professor Stewart are in the seperate letters noted below each article.

UVM President Daniel Fogel

UVM President Daniel Fogel sent an email to “calm” all UVM students and faculty just before our forum at UVM Jan. 19th.

Especially given Pres. Fogel’s status as the public figurehead for a prominent college, his statements and characterization of VMAC are nothing short of incredible; calling VMAC’s presence on campus “objectionable,” “troubling,” and even insinuating that our presence required “disenfecting.” Read Pres. Fogel’s letter in full, and VMAC’s response. A must read...
